OWNER BIO:

Joi C. Richardson a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in the rural city of Enfield, North Carolina, a wife and mother of two is the owner of The JOIFUL Collection. Mrs. Richardson began the company with the support of her husband, after the untimely death of her mother and best friend's mother due to breast cancer. She enjoyed the soothing effect that candles made her feel. Mrs. Richardson says "Candles stimulate our limbic system, the part of our brain that is home to our memory and emotions, and I needed that the most during these difficult times and I wanted to share that feeling! Not only are candles an affordable indulgence, they make awesome gifts and brightens up a room."

In the U.S., breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer and the 2nd leading cause of cancer death. While breast cancer incidence rates among Black and white women are close, mortality rates are markedly different, with Black women having a 40% higher death rate from breast cancer. The biology of breast cancer is inherently complex and expanding Black women’s participation in research is critical.
